Political discourse interpreting demands not only linguistic proficiency but also a nuanced understanding of the speaker's register and tone. This study examines the intricate process of adapting register and tone in political discourse interpreting, focusing on the challenges faced by interpreters and the strategies employed to navigate these complexities. Through a comparative analysis of English-to-[Target Language] interpretations of political speeches, debates, and negotiations, this research sheds light on the dynamic interplay between linguistic accuracy and contextual appropriateness in interpreting settings. Drawing on a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including discourse analysis and interpreter interviews, the study explores how interpreters negotiate between fidelity to the speaker's original message and sensitivity to the target audience's linguistic and cultural expectations. Additionally, the research investigates the impact of various factors, such as socio-political context, speaker characteristics, and interpreting modalities, on the interpreter's decision-making process. By elucidating the strategies employed by interpreters to adapt register and tone in political discourse interpreting, this study contributes to our understanding of the complex dynamics of intercultural communication and provides valuable insights for interpreter training and practice.
