ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
Abstrakti
Uzbekistan has been actively developing its legal framework to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. This article examines the country’s key environmental laws, including the Law on Environmental Protection (1992), the Law on the Protection of Atmospheric Air (1996), and the Law on Water and Water Use (1993). It explores the implementation of national policies aimed at preserving biodiversity, improving air and water quality, and combating desertification in one of the world’s most arid regions. The article also highlights recent amendments and strategies, such as the Environmental Protection Action Program (2021–2025), reflecting Uzbekistan’s alignment with global environmental standards and commitments under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite significant progress, challenges such as enforcement weaknesses, public awareness gaps, and industrial pollution persist. This article underscores the importance of strengthening legal mechanisms, fostering international cooperation, and engaging civil society to ensure a more sustainable and environmentally resilient Uzbekistan.
