T. WOLFE’S " OF TIME AND RIVER" IS A CONTINUATION OF THE TRADITIONS OF MODERNIST LITERATURE IN THE UNITED STATES.
Abstract
This article argues that Thomas Wolfe's “Of Time and the River” exemplifies a continuation of modernist literary traditions within the United States. It analyzes Wolfe's stylistic choices, thematic concerns, and narrative techniques to demonstrate his engagement with key modernist principles. The analysis will likely examine Wolfe's use of stream-of-consciousness, his exploration of subjective experience and fragmented narratives, his depiction of the complexities of human relationships, and his engagement with themes of memory and the passage of time, comparing and contrasting these elements with those found in other prominent American modernist works. The article aims to situate Wolfe's expansive novel within the larger context of American literary modernism, highlighting its contribution to the movement's development.
